Currently on the easle

Currently on the easel is this painting of "The Gift". My husband went out of town on business last week to Albuquerque, New Mexico. Sometimes when he is gone he likes to shop at this huge store full of Mexican art and clothing. This time he brought me back a beautiful ring. It is a big chunky silver ring. The best part about it is that it reminds me of the saying, "you can't fit a square peg in a round hole" It is square on the outside with a circle cut into the middle. Every time I look down at my hand it makes me think that I "fit" now. I fit into this life and this world. I now know where I must be and what I must do. It is simple really, I am just to do the next thing that is put in my path. And do it to my best ability. That's it. Nothing more....nothing less. Having just celebrated my 6th year of sobriety, it was a real treat to get this ring:)
So....I decided to paint it for fun and share my thoughts with you. I will post the final piece when it is done. But for now......
Enjoy!

What a wonderful evening

Well the paint night at Artisan's Cove was a great success! This was our first one and I could not have been more pleased with the group of talented women that came out to paint. It is always a treat to be able to teach a group that is so close. They laughed and painted and drank and painted and ate and painted and did a wonderful job! I was amazed at the creativity. Each one put their own spin on their painting that represented them. Here are a few shots of the evening. (sorry for the picture quality...had to use the cell phone)

Here is the link to Artisan's Cove if you would like to book a night of fun and paint with YOUR friends.
Enjoy!

Painting tonight at Artisan's Cove

Tonight I will have the pleasure of painting with a group of women. They have booked a party at Artisan's Cove. http://reflectivesframe.com/

This is a new class I am offering and hope to continue. Each one is a different theme. This one is called "Enya". You can go onto their web link above and check them out.

We all have such busy lives....sometimes it's just nice to get together with your friends and escape for a while. So we will be listening to Enya, eating, painting and swimming in the color for a while...Ahhhhhh

I will post more from the night tomorrow:)

Enjoy!

Plein Air Day

Had a great time today despite the weather. It was nice to be able to paint outdoors with a wonderful friend of mine Angie, of Pick My Brains Art http://pickmybrainsart.blogspot.com/

We went out to my father in laws (aka Fasha) house in the woods :) All I can say is YUM!! The rain let up for a bit and we were able to find a nice spot full of flowers. So we got in the red dune buggie and Fasha followed us in the tractor. He carried all of our art supplies in the tractor's bucket/scoop that he covered with a large torn box. (wasn't that sweet, he didn't want to get our stuff dirty) What a sight. He's great! I bet they DON'T do plein air like that in Tuscany. LOL Angie had made the best scones for the day. So we ate and painted until we just couldn't anymore. At one point a large praying mantis crawled up on Angie's chair....he didn't seem to like me too well and tried to attack! By the end of the day we were both tired. But not to tired to take the dune buggie for a spin. We felt like little kids again. Isn't that how life should be? I think I will answer YES!

Here are a few pictures from the day. I don't know what to name the painting. Any suggestions?

Enjoy!

Ahhh done and on to the next!

Ahhh... I am finally done with the Chinoiserie. I really enjoyed doing this piece. It taught me a little patience. And gave me a whole lot of meditation time :)

A trip to my father-in-laws has inspired the next.....but you will have to wait and see.

Hope you are having a joyful day.

Enjoy!

Let the detailing begin

Here is my life lately....work all day, attempt to interact with children in between their running, kiss my hubby, eat, meditate, work some more, play with dogs....and CRAVE the painting time! Then I go to bed (usually collapse about 8pm), get up again, and start all over. Sounds a little like a rat race. But the great part about it is that it is always something new. Each and every day brings new challenges, experiences, people, laughter, sadness, etc. The weather is always different each day, which carries it's own mood. I can't imagine why I get so board or upset? It is NEVER,EVER the same day twice. It's like an adventure of the soul. These are things I think about when I stay up too late :) Tonight I decided to try and stay awake long enough to do at least a little detail work on the Chinoiserie. (Ahhhhh the painting time. YUM!) So I have the meditation music going so that I can sit and swim in the color for a while. The detail work is not at all what I am used to. I like things quick and fast....instant gratification I guess. But, sitting down with the music and paint, the day's journey ran through my head. I kind of like the tediousness of the detail. It helps me get lost for a while. I found myself painting until 12:30am! Good lord where did the time go? So I decided to stop, blog a little and wrap things up. But boy am I grateful for the paint time. (although I might pay for it in the morning at work) Here is a picture of the progress from tonight

So, do you all have some sort of something that takes you away? Some sort of hobby or passion that lets you sit with yourself and reflect?

Enjoy!
