Here is the beginning of a painting I started in art class on Monday. Sasha posed for us again...and brought her bike (or should I say her porsch). She rides that thing everywhere...YOU GO GIRL!

Anyway, it's just the beginning...it has a LONG way to go.

So get on your bike, ride where you like, and enjoy the view.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!!!!

Today is my sweet mother's birthday...I won't tell you which one because she would right me out of the will. :) But I will tell you a little about my Mom. She is the one of the rocks in our family. Whenever anyone of us needs her she is ALWAYS there. She believes in my Dad and loves him with all of her heart. THAT is special in it's self. My dad is a pretty tuff cookie. He he he (Had to give him a jab...he is always teasing Mom) My Mom is gentle and kind. She has the best outlook on life. She gives the best hugs. The ones that let you know you are loved. She is artistic and whitty. She doesn't like to be teased about serious things that scare her. She may start to cry. You have to be careful with this one...one time I joked about my dog dying, after she had shipped it to California to me, and I thought she was going to stroke out and never speak to me again. (this was in my bad-days) She loves telling the story about when my dad was in the hospital and dating another girl. She (mom) had borrowed his car and was returning the keys to him, at the hospial. The girlfriend saw and mom pitched the keys to dad and said thanks. Even the new girlfriend couldn't drive my dad's car....so needless to say she got peeved...and mom got dad. She believes in God and keeps him close to her. And tells us every week that we need to go to church. hehe She is a wonderful nurse and had been able to use those skills with us on many occations. (that's all I'll say about that) She keeps my dad calm, whenever he gets wiggy. She LOVES her children and she LOVES LOVES LOVES her grandchildren. She is my hero. And ...........she has the BEST Birthday song ever!!!!
So here's to you Mom on your special day....(sing) Birthday Girl , Birthday Girl, Mommy is A Birthday Girl.
I LOVE YOU

Sandy's Boa...Done/New start

Ok...ENOUGH with the BOA! I am done with this one.....well...maybe one little tweak tomorrow:) And I have started a new one. I did one similar to this river painting about 4 years ago. It was a dream that I had and had to paint. I am curious to see how much I have changed in my style since then. I'll post them both when I'm done.

My Mom :)

So, here is one of the reasons why I became interested in painting. My Mother used to paint too. And she is really quite good! She painted this one a while ago. It sat in her laundry room for years. Until one day I convinced her...in the loving way that I do(i.e. kissed up)...to let me have it. It now hangs in the hallway that leads to our bedroom. I LOVE it! It is nice to round the corner in the evening, head down the hall to bed and look up and see the two swans. It reminds me of love...and my Mom. Thanks to my mom, I now enjoy the gift of painting. XXOO

Here is a sneak peak at the new painting on my easel.

No new work for this week

Sorry guys. I have been really busy this week. The weather is getting nice, so I have been doing yard work all week, planting, cleaning, mowing and grooming. It usually takes me good hard weeks worth of work to get it cleaned up from fall and winter.

I will be back on Monday with some new art for you. Have a great weekend.

The beginning of "Sandy's Boa"

Here is a painting that I quickly started in art class today at the Huntsville Art League. They had a live model and she switched up poses about every 15-20 minutes for 3 hours. FUN! This was my first class with this group of women. They are all so talented....and funny. OOOO I am hooked now. I can't wait until next Monday to see who they get to model.

New Puppy!...."The Todd"

I am sure that my parents are going to flip when they see this post. They didn't see this one coming and Mom says that she gets to see what I am up to through this blog.....so here it goes:) Remember Mom and Dad...I'm your angel! (she says as she places the halo on her head)

So, my father in law, Abner aka Fasha, has a black lab and german shepard mix dog. His name is Andy. He is the most gentle and well mannered dog I have ever seen. For a while now, we have been watching Andy when ever he goes out of town. The children just love him. Especially the boys. So the other day, out of the blue, my husband says,"You know...the kids are going to be gone before we know it. I think we should get them the big dog." Of course, I ,being the good spouse and mother that I am , went out IMMEDIATELY and found the PERFECT puppy. Well, that and the kids and I have just been waiting patiently for the "GO" from dad ;) So we found a black lab and golden retriever mix. He is about 5 lbs and 6 weeks old. And boy 'O boy is he precious. The kids are ecstatic! Our youngest son, Michael, who is our animal child is not home yet. He will be back today and be completely surprised! And I am quite sure he is going to cry his precious big blue eyes out. You know ....it's nice to be able to give your family such joy. I can see the pride in my husbands face and it warms my heart:)

Only one problem...we don't have a name for him.
Nevermind...the boys have agreed on a name....."The Todd" aka Todd
Hey...it's their dog..they get to choose the name...I am just here to feed and care for the thing:) LOL

New painting in progress

Here is the painting that I started in my most recent workshop. I learned that, I don't think I like painting buildings. Something about the straight lines.? There are some paintings that I can really get lost in....and there are some that I just have to work at. But I am glad that I get to learn:) So here is a first for me. It has a long way to go. I do like that the man seems to be waiting for her arival, looking the wrong way down the street. As she quickly and gracefully makes her way to him.

End of workshop

Well today was the end of our workshop with Carole. We had a wonderful time! We talked and painted, ate and painted, and of course laughed and...you guessed it...PAINTED! Here are some pictures. We all ended up coming away with some pretty good paintings. They seem to take on a theme of "travel".....You think MAYBE we are needing vacations? hmmmmm

Thanks for a wonderful 3 days girls!

The Boat

by Michele Lee copyright 2008 Acrylic on canvas 16 x 20"
The Boat
Today I had another class with Carole. LOVED IT!!! I am painting a street scene but it won't be finished until tomorrow...so you will have to wait.
We looked through pictures today to find something that we wanted to paint and I found this boat. So I decided to paint this one at home. I wonder who was in the boat? Maybe I should put a couple off in the distance behind the palms. Hmmmm. Or maybe you can just make up your own story about it. I like it. I seem to like painting things that have some sort of romance.
So kick back, swoon on the bank, and enjoy your view :)

Turkish Lanterns

by Michele Lee Copyright 2008 Acrylic on canvas 16 x 20"

It's done! Here are the Turkish lanterns. I used to live in Germany. I took a trip to Turkey with a girlfriend of mine while we were there. We went to the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. INCREDIBLE! There was a man that had a shop set up that sold lanterns. The other day I was looking around on the net and came across some pictures of the Grand Bazaar. It reminded me of that trip. I have always loved lanterns. They remind me of warm nights, romance and a little magic.

Enjoy!

APRIL FOOL'S DAY!!!!!

Happy April Fool's Day!!! I love this day of the year. Why you ask:) Because it's my Birthday. Today I am officially 42! The answer to the universe for those of you who have seen "The Hitch hikers Guide to the Galaxy".
My Husband gave me a 3 day workshop with Carole Foret http://www.caroleforet.com/ . Two of my girlfriends went with me. We had a blast. Here is a picture of the painting I started today. Tomorrow we will be doing a street scene. I can't wait!

HAL Show

Thanks to everyone who came out for the HAL show. It was nice to see familiar faces and meet some new ones. A special thanks to my Mom and Dad for coming in from Kentucky and helping with the set up. And my sweet husband for coming out , even though he was in pain from his wisdom tooth surgery. And thanks to Jan for purchasing "Spring". I hope you enjoy it for a log time.
Here are a few pictures from the day.
